From the Ankarana Massif we went to Nosy Be, THE tourist island of Madagascar. Here we had, after several weeks of having gone through quite a lot, the luxury of a hotel.
Here at Nosy Be, you find the Lokobe Reserve, a very small reserve but much known for its black lemur. This lemur is called the most beautiful lemur of Madagascar. Unfortunately only few are left. These lemurs are indeed real beauties, but we have seen more beauties, so we cannot say which one is the most beautiful, every specie has its own peculiarities. The females of the black lemur are not black but beautifully reddish brown, to us actually more beautiful as the male. We even saw a female with a young one at her back.
You also can find here many chameleons, the mantilla betsileo and snakes.
Also here we could go our own way. We went by canoe to the Lokobe Reserve, instead of walking to the village and taking the regular boat to the island. But canoeing at sea is a little heavy. The island did not look that far away, but it still took 2 hours by canoe. But it was really worthwhile.
